If circumstances occur resulting in changes being made regarding the emergency contact persons (i.e., custody disputes), it is the responsibility of the parents to notify school authorities.
SCHOOL ARRIVAL/TARDIES
- Every effort should be made to get children to school on time.
- Doors open at 7:30 a.m for students’ arrival. Breakfast will be served between 7:30 and 7:55 each morning.
- Promptness is part of learning responsibility, which is a major goal at Twin City Elementary School. Students are tardy after 8:00.

- Work missed due to tardiness must be made up.
DISMISSAL/EARLY PICK-UP/SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS

- If a student is out of zone and can not adhere to these guidelines, your child will have to attend the school he/she is zoned for.
SUPERVISION OF STUDENTS DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
The school cannot be responsible for supervising students prior to 7:30 a.m. or after 3:00.
EARLY RELEASE
- If a student must leave school prior to the normal dismissal time, the parent must present a picture ID and sign the child out in the front office. Only those names listed on the student registration form as parent, guardian, or emergency contact person will be allowed to check the student out of school. If for any reason a person not listed on the form needs to check the student out, contact by the parent must be made before the student can be released from school. This is solely for the protection of the child.
- If you need to check your child out for a scheduled appointment, please send a note to his or her teacher that morning. State the time your child is to be picked up and by whom. This allows the teacher to be certain the child has the necessary assignments for the day. Office personnel will call the student from the classroom when you are signing out your child.
Please allow students to remain in school throughout the instructional day. Students who leave early miss valuable instruction.
PICK-UP PROCEDURES
The school will provide car tags for parents during afternoon pick-ups. These will be available during Open House and in the main office. Please display the tag on your rearview mirror with your student’s name visible. To ensure a smooth pick-up process, it is crucial to have a car tag. If you do not have one, you will need to park and come inside to check out your student. To help us maintain an efficient system, please arrive in line before 3:00 PM.
ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT
- To be counted present, a student must remain at school until 11:30 a.m.
- A student is counted absent if picked up before 11:30 and not returned to school.
- A student who misses any portion of the day will not be eligible for perfect attendance.
CHRONIC TARDINESS/EARLY PICK-UPS
● Excessive tardiness and/or early pick-ups are referred to the Emanuel County Schools Social Worker's Office for intervention and possible referral to Truancy Court.
● Georgia and Emanuel County truancy laws are in effect.
Absences and Excuses
Students are expected to be in attendance in Emanuel County Schools in accordance with compulsory attendance laws and for the number of full-length days prescribed by law. A student shall not be absent from school or from any class or other required school hours except for illness or other providential cause, unless with written permission of the teacher, principal, or their duly authorized school official.
The following list contains reasons determined by the State School Board for an excused absence to occur:
- Personal illness or attendance in school endangers a student’s health or the health of others
- Serious illness in a student’s immediate family
- Observing religious holidays, necessitating absence from school
- Conditions rendering attendance impossible or hazardous to student health or safety
- A student whose parent or legal guardian is in military service in the U.S. armed forces or National Guard, and such parent has been called to duty for or is on leave from overseas deployment to a combat zone or combat support posting will be granted up to 5 days of excused absences per school year to visit with his or her parent prior to the parent’s deployment or during the parent’s leave.
Preapproved Absences
Absences for EARLY DISMISSAL and OUT-OF-TOWN trips that are approved by the administration before the absence occurs will result in the student being allowed to make up work and not receive a zero on missed. In case of an emergency, parents must make arrangements within a reasonable period of time.
Student Attendance Excuses
Parent Excuses:
- Must be furnished in writing
- Must be signed by the student’s parent or guardian
- Must state the dates and reasons for the absence.
- Only 5 written parent excuses will be allowed for absences.
- Any absence thereafter will require an excuse from a medical professional or other medical documentation (as required by the principal or designee).
All excuses will be evaluated by the principal to determine if the absence is excused or unexcused.
- Students shall be permitted to make up work when absences are excused or preapproved.
- Absences due to out-of-school suspensions shall be unexcused.
MAKE-UP WORK
All make-up work must be completed within five (5) school days of the student’s return to school, unless the school principal allows the student additional time to complete such make-up work.
Previously assigned work should be completed on the day the student returns to school unless an administrator has determined this would make it an unreasonable expectation of the student.
