Visitors
Visitors and Volunteers
All visitors and volunteers are required to check in at the main office, state the purpose for the visit, and be granted approval by the administration or office staff before they enter into the secured areas of the building. The school must control and monitor the flow of visitors, and this must include parents and guardians too. This enables administrators to be best prepared for emergency situations and enhances our level of security.
- Front office and lobby: To check-out a child from school, you must identify yourself and submit one form of picture identification. County policy: no checkouts after 2:00.
- Sign-In Procedures:
- Upon arrival, you must check in at the main office, present a state-issued picture identification and state the purpose of your visit.
- Administrators or office staff will verify appointments or other reasons for the visit.
- You are required to wear a temporary guest badge provided by the school at all times while you remain in the school building or on school premises.
- You must remain in approved areas only.
- You must at all times act in a manner appropriate to the safe functioning of the school environment. Any individual who engages in uncooperative or disruptive behavior will be required to leave the premises.
- Upon conclusion of the visit, you must return to the main office and check out.
- The school reserves the right to deny an individual entry to our school building when there is reason to believe that such an individual's presence would be detrimental to the operation of the school and the learning environment.
Walking Children Into School
- Parents or guardians may walk their child or children to their classroom(s) during the first week of each new school year.
- Parents are encouraged to walk their child to the school entrance/foyer only after the one week period, but not to their classrooms. All parents should exit the building by 8:00 in order for the homeroom class to begin.
CUSTODY
If custody of a minor child changes after enrollment, documents should be provided to the school as soon as possible after the change. Students cannot be withdrawn without this information. It is a crime for any person to make or attempt to make a change of custody of a minor child by removing the child from school without permission of the person who enrolled the child in school, even if the person attempting to remove the child has a court order granting that person custody.
Court orders that specifically authorize or direct the release of custody by the school system will be followed. The school system will not interject itself in a custody or visitation dispute between parents. The school system will give to non-custodial parents, upon request, all information required under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act and the laws of the State of Georgia unless there is a valid court order directing the school system not to divulge such information. If such an order exists, a certified copy must be delivered to the principal’s office.
Delivery of Items to a Classroom
- School office staff will be glad to help ensure that any items that parents or guardians have to drop off to a child or classroom will be taken down to the classroom as soon as possible.
- Under special circumstances, school administrators or main office staff may give approval for the visitor to sign in and get a visitor’s pass and allow the visitor to take the items to the classroom. Flowers and gifts are not permitted.
Meeting With a Teacher
- If a parent or guardian would like to speak with their child’s teacher, they can schedule a meeting by emailing the teacher directly, sending a note with their child, or requesting assistance through the school office.
- We truly value our partnerships with families and encourage open communication with your child’s teacher.
- To minimize disruptions to learning, please note that teachers cannot be pulled from classroom instruction for unscheduled visits. We kindly ask that all meetings be arranged in advance.
